The Greatest Gift

Last night, D informed me that I had an early wedding present. He told me to close my eyes, and when I opened them, he revealed the most amazing thing - he'd had my childhood family VHS's converted to digital, so I could see and hear my dad. This may not sound like a big deal, unless you know that my dad passed away when I was 12 years old, and I have missed him every day since. So he basically gave me the gift of my father - who we learned, in a lengthy evening viewing of my family in the 90s, was basically a vlogger before vlogging was a thing. The videos were all of our holidays, and he filmed EVERYTHING, before spending hours and hours editing his work - quite a feat in the 90s, since we didn't even have a computer. In his footage, we saw me being grumpy about being woken up, my brother dancing like an absolute lunatic, and himself, on the balcony, camera rested on a table and directed straight at him, telling us - his 29 year old daughter and 32 year old fiancé way forward in the future - that it was 12:30am and he was 'drunk on gin eh toneecah por favor.' Amazing.

Thank you, future husband, for such a thoughtful and unrivalled gift. I'm so happy to be able to hear my dad's voice whenever I want to, and to have a way to introduce our future children to how funny and weird their grandpa Steve was.

You are the greatest xxxx

PS I had the STRONGEST regional accent as a kid. Who knew I once pronounced 'now' as 'nahhhh'?
